How to find volunteers that stay

Curious how to find new volunteers for your organizing efforts? Have a great team and want to make sure they stick around for the long-haul? During this three-hour evening session, we will dig into what it takes to find volunteers and keep them around.

We will share best practices, hear stories about what's worked (and hasn't worked!) for a few local organizers, and create space to learn from one another.

This session will be led by Kelsey Mech, National Director of the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition, and Anna McClean, National Organizer at Leadnow.ca.

It will be held in Room D114, Maclaurin Building at the University of Victoria.  There is bicycle parking directly outside the building.  The closest bus stop is located outside Parking Lot 6 on Ring Road, though any bus that goes to the UVic bus loop will get you there.  The closest parking is in parking lot 6, accessible off of Ring Road (parking costs a flat rate of $2.50 after 6pm).  The closest accessible parking spaces are in Parkin Lot E, off of Ring Road.   There are maps showing the locations of the building outside each parking lot and the main bus loop.

Accessibility

  • The room is wheelchair accessible and is on the first floor of the building.  A map showing the locations of accessible parking and ramps is here.
  • The closest washrooms (in the D wing) are not wheelchair accessible.  There are wheelchair accessible washrooms in the A wing.
  • The washrooms are separated into men and women. There is a private, gender inclusive washroom in the David Turpin Building, about a 4 minute walk away.
  • The chairs in our room are tablet arm chairs with a fixed arm that has a fold down tablet desktop.
